Spring Break
I am a "To-Do List" kinda person. I am also a mom who looks forward to school breaks and doesn't want them to end because I want to spend time with the boys (although yesterday I may have wanted the break to be over). Trying to juggle what NEEDS to be done, what I WANT to get done and making memories with the boys is sometimes a balancing act. This Spring Break is halfway over and I can say with all certainty that the big projects on my "To-Do" list will not get done. Closets will not be organized, P's loft and dresser won't be repainted, my email accounts won't get cleaned out. But here's what has (or will) happen over the break: The boys will spend afternoons swimming and riding their bikes. Time has (and will be) spent with friends and family. Cuddles while watching "Lone Star Law" and a leisurely cup of coffee will happen upon waking up in the mornings. A little fussing at the boys will happen since they have forgotten how to act in public (got to keep it real!). Homecooked meals will be made. New places will be visited. New games will be created. Memories will be made. Laughter (and a little anger/hurt feelings) will be thrown in the mix. We won't be on much of a schedule. There will be minimal stress. Man, I can't wait til Summer break when this can happen longer than 10 days!! Bring it on!!

Burns and Blisters
I don't even know where to begin with this story. Now that it's past us, I chuckle every time I think about it. Monday night I was going to go to the gym. But Spin class was filled up so I decided to make a nice dinner and go for a run around the neighborhood. I got the dinner started and went outside to do a little yardwork. For some reason (I can't remember what it is now) I came back in the house. Immediately I saw/smelled smoke. You see, I thought I had turned the pan of butter OFF but I had actually turned it on high. It had been sitting on the stove, sizzling, for 10 minutes before I found it. I grabbed the pan, anxious to remove it from the stove, when I tripped. I'm pretty sure I tripped over air because there was nothing on the floor. Anyway, when I tripped, the butter spilled out of the pan and down both of my legs. Burnt a whole through my yoga pants (Thankfully the pants were old and ratty as it was). It was definitely a fight or flight moment and I froze. Literally, could not let go of the pan even as Rob was trying to pry it from my hands. Once he finally took it from me I noticed that smoke had filled the house. I was trying to open the doors to air out the house before the smoke alarm went off but I was a little late. 2 alarms started going off and our security system was calling to make sure we were okay. Our little mutt was sitting there, shaking like a leaf, because of all the commotion. I'm trying to get her outside, talk to the security monitor and then I noticed I had burns down my calf. Rob ran out to his truck to get some kind of medicated blanket to use for burns. He insisted I sit down for 30 minutes, covered in this blanket, to soothe the burns. When it was all said and done, I had first and second degree burns down my left thigh, right calf and a couple of my toes.
Now, for those who know me well know I pass out easily. I passed after giving birth to both boys. I passed out when I got my cast off my elbow after a dirtbike accident. I came to on the kitchen floor after cutting my thumb, while making apple cobbler, several years ago. Unfortunately, it's just my body's embarrassing way of dealing with injuries.
Fast forward to Thursday. I had been doctoring the burns and blisters all week and never once thought I'd pass out. Thursday I put ointment on the blisters and burns and decided to put some Bandaids on a few of the worse ones to keep infection at bay. For some reason, adding Bandaids to the mix was my demise. I started seeing stars and my head felt woozy. Thankfully I got to the bed and was able to sit down just as I felt I was going down. Now, the past few days, when I start putting ointment on I get lightheaded and have to sit down. All because of trying to make one of E's favorite meal- chicken, rice and gravy. Lesson learned: always make sure you click the knob one more time to the OFF position.
Man, I've been a hot mess this week- literally and figuratively. But it makes for a funny story so the scars I will probably have as a result are worth the laughs I've gotten from it. Take time to laugh, even if it's at your own expense! Life is too short to take it too seriously.
