I've gotten to the point where I don't believe, "Life will slow down after....". It won't and I'm okay with that because Rob and I are helping the boys live their best life. We make mistakes and we don't always rock the parenting thing, but neither boy will ever be able to say we didn't give them everything we had (in every sense of the word).
We have told both boys, since they were 5, that they needed to try 1 sport and 1 other activity. Little did we know that would make our lives crazy busy. With Rob still doing hurricane work, it's been on me to be the Mom Taxi more than usual this past month. With Rob's new position, he and I have worked well as a team, getting the boys to their practices, youth nights, etc. But we both knew that storm work would throw a wrench in that and it has.
Let me give you a typical few days for this Mom Taxi:
Monday- leave at 7am to get P to school
Work 7:40-3:40
Pick P up from cross country at 4:15
Squeeze in the gym at 4:45 if all the stars align
Drop E off at baseball academy
Pick E up from academy at 7:30 and race him to football practice until 8:30
Tuesday- leave at 7am to get P to school
work 7:40-3:40
Drop E off at piano lessons at 3:45
Pick P up from cross country and then go back to pick E up from piano lessons
Fit in the gym around 4:45
Take P to football practice from 6-7:30 (and do homework with E during that time)
Wednesday- Leave at 7am to get P to school
Work 7:40-3:40
Pick P up from cross country practice
Race home to get his guitar then take him to worship band practice
Get to the gym at 5:30
Pick P up from youth group at 7:30
I don't write this to show that my life is busier than yours because it probably isn't. If you have kids, you get it. IF you're a single parent, then you really get it. I'm merely blogging this so, someday, when the boys are grown and busy with lives of their own, I can look back at this and reflect about their lives at this stage. Like I've said, I wouldn't trade it for anything. And when Rob is slammed with work, I appreciate our teamwork that much more when things go back to normal. It also makes me appreciate the downtime. I laugh on the weekends when P says, "Can we do something? I'm bored." No son, we can't. The Mom Taxi needs a break....and I've learned that it's okay for me to say that.
