What a weekend!
I love the weekend because I get to spend more time with Rob. But, this weekend was a great combination of relaxing and social engagements. Friday night Rob went down the mountain for awhile so I rented a couple "chick flicks" and watched one. Saturday morning, while Rob was at work, I had a lazy morning and watched the other one.Once he got off work, we picked up his new BBQ and got to use it with our friends, Matt and Jena, last night for dinner. They brought their kids, who enjoyed the house and Rob's NASCAR collection. It's been nice having friends come over for dinner so they can see the house.
Today was yet a new adventure for me. A bullfighter was killed a couple weeks ago doing what he loved and there was a memorial rodeo for him. Rob is mentoring a high school kid that wanted to ride. So, we picked him up and took him to the rodeo. (On the way to get him we saw a hot air balloon descending in front of a beautiful mountainous landscape). We left early enough to make it to "Cowboy Church". If you have not been to "Cowboy Church" I believe everyone should experience it at least once. People sit on bales of hay, the chaplain wears Wranglers and reads from the Cowboy Bible, and in the background you can hear the bulls in the chutes. Although I didn't take away much from the sermon, I really enjoyed experiencing the whole thing.
Now, to end our great weekend, we are listening to the rainstorm outside while watching our favorite show, "Army Wives". This storm has a lot of thunder and lightning that I've enjoyed. After a few times of the lightning striking and me saying,"Wow! That was a good one!" Rob asked if I planned to say that every time it struck. What can I say? I am fascinated with lightning (although Roxy doesn't like the thunder that accompanies it!)
I absolutely love weekends like this!!!

Jen, you sound so happy. As one who was born in one of the lightning capitals of the world, Tampa, FL, I copied some precautions for you. I know we had very few storms in Sac like you are now getting.
• if your hair stands on end or you feel a tingling sensation, lightning may be about to strike. If no shelter is available squat down with feet together and place hands over ears to minimize hearing damage from thunder. This also reduces your chances of being struck or becoming a conductor for nearby lightning strikes;
• remember the "30/30" rule. If lightning is sighted and its accompanying thunder arrives in less than 30 seconds, the lightning is within 6 miles and shelter should be taken. Remain in that shelter for 30 minutes after the last clap of thunder;
• avoid projecting above the surrounding terrain as you would if standing in an open field or on a mountain top;
• stay away from open water;
• if indoors, avoid water and stay away from doors and windows. Don't use telephones with cords and take off headsets. If possible, turn off appliances;
• computers, power tools and televisions because an exterior lightning strike of electric or telephone lines can induce shocks to indoor equipment;
• stay off motorcycles and bicycles, tractors and other metal farm or construction equipment;
• put down golf clubs and take shelter. Metal-spiked golf shoes increase the probability of being struck;
• don't stand under natural lightning rods such as tall, isolated trees;
• avoid taking shelter in small structures that are isolated in an open area;
• if in a forest, seek shelter in a low area under a thick growth of small trees; if in an open area, seek a low place such as a ravine or valley but stay alert for possible flash flooding.
Love you,
Mrs. Jetton
Wow! So much to remember! Right now it looks like we're getting another storm soon, which is good since we need the rain. Thanks for the advice!
