Rumble in the Rubies
Rob FINALLY had a weekend off so we decided to make the most of it. We took a roadtrip to Elko, a favorite place of ours. Along the way we drove through the area where our antelope hunt will be later this Summer. Despite the miles we drove, we didn't see an antelope. We even stopped and "glassed" to no avail. Although we were in the car for many hours, Preston was a trooper. We would've gone longer but wanted to get to Elko so we could have dinner and swim. When we got there we were in for a surprise. Rumble in the Rubies (a motorcycle thing) and a high school rodeo were taking place. We went to 3 or 4 hotels before we finally found one that had an open room for a reasonable rate....and pool. After checking in we went to our favorite restaurant, The Star. It's a Basque place with the most delicious food! I ordered halibut and decided it's now my favorite thing there. If I hadn't filled up on all the great appetizers beforehand, I would've downed the entire fillet without a problem! Once we got back to the hotel we took advantage of the pool. We blew up Preston's new floaty and "set sail". He had so much fun!! He loved floating around and swimming with Daddy. It was such a quality family time! This morning we woke up early, thanks to the "Rumblers". Preston gave Daddy a book of Father/Son pictures that he can take with him on his long job in Battle Mtn. I took advantage of the hotel breakfast (Yes, this trip was all about food for me!) and then we hit the road. On the way back, along the side of the interstate, we saw 3 antelope. We pulled over to the shoulder so we could see 2 of them with the binoculars and spotting scope. I was glad we finally got to see antelope because I had never seen one up close and personal. All in all, from beginning to end, it was a perfect family getaway full of laughter and fun memories!!
